The Ruby Slippers in the Wizard of Oz where originally silver in the book. It was decided to make the shoes red for the movie in order to take advantage of newly developed colour processes in film.
The film's early 3-strip Technicolor process required the sequins on the shoes to be darker than most red sequins found today; bright red sequins would have appeared orange on screen
This ruby toed slipper of my devising is encrusted with red & orange glitter.
