The birth of the shoe

The birth of the shoe. Shoe lasts (the mould the shoes are made on) come in pairs of left & right, however once upon a time both left & right shoe were both made on identical lasts that were neither suited to the left or right foot. Shoe lasts were originally hand carved in wood as the prototypes often are now, however now brand new lasts come in molded plastic with a
metal hinge. Lasts for baby shoes don't have a hinge.

CARPET ON THE SOLES OF HER SHOES

Once upon a time there was a Queen who ruled a far off land called caramel.
Caramel was known for its rocky terrain, which bothered the Queen tremendously!
The queen ordered her courtiers to carpet her entire kingdom in red carpet so that wherever she walked she could strut the red carpet in style! The courtiers were confounded by this proposal until one of the kings advisers suggested that they cover the soles of her shoes in red carpet & so it came to pass that the queen of caramel walked the red carpet wherever she went!
